Wedding bells are about to ring for Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz this weekend. But before the big day, the big pre-day parties! Ashlee's older sister, Jessica, and mom Tina threw a bachelorette party for her at the Simpson household in Encino, Calif. A gaggle of gals joined in the fun, which lasted until just about midnight. Meanwhile, Ashlee's dad, Joe Simpson, took her fiancé, Pete, and some buddies out for a booze-fueled bachelor's dinner in a private upstairs room at Beverly Hills hotspot Mr. Chow. Joe is clearly one proud soon-to-be father-in-law: "I'm a happy camper," he cheered as they all left the restaurant. The pre-wedding partiers, minus the bride-to-be, moved the celebration to Teddy's at the Roosevelt hotel, where Jessica stopped by to visit her dad and future brother-in-law before calling it a night.

Ellen announced on her show Thursday that she and Portia de Rossi plan to wed. The good news comes at the same time that “the state’s high court struck down California laws against gay marriage.”

While sister Asslee prepares for one of the happiest days of her life (her wedding) Jess is "stabbed in the heart" - as one of the weekly mags put it.

Making things more bitter for Simpson is the news that ex-boyfriend Tony Romo was supposedly about to ask her to marry him.

It seems they had spoken about marriage before. She even referred to him during a recent Glamour magazine interview as her "future husband".

Now, an inside source says that Tony was organizing an "intimate dinner for friends and family" which was to take place in a few weeks to announce the engagement.

The source adds, "Every couple has their problems; we're hoping that they'll have a break and work it all out."

Another source adds, "Jessica has made no secret of the fact she wants to get married, and with all the Ashlee wedding talk and Jess’ dad’s involvement, Tony was obviously feeling it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he just couldn’t go through with the proposal and that’s what’s caused the break."
