‘Twilight’ Dominates MTV Movie Awards

May 31, 2009 Author: TheInsider | Filed under: News
'Twilight' was the big win of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, with the cast and crew accepting popcorn prizes for all of the categories of which they had nominations. "Saturday Night Live" comedian and host Andy Samberg kicked off the night in song, while Ashley Tisdale accepted the first award of the evening for her Breakthrough Female Performance in 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year.' The late Heath Ledger was recognized on the red carpet for winning the award for Best Villain for his role in 'Dark Knight.' Shia LaBeouf presented the award for Best Fight to 'Twilight' studs Robert Pattinson and Cam Gigandet. Pattinson thanked his stunt double for the fight scene. Eminem then took the stage to perform, followed by Jonah Hill and Vanessa Hudgens presenting the award for Breakthrough Male Performance to Pattinson. Brüno, a.k.a. Sacha Baron Cohen, caused a bit of a fuss when he flew into Eminem who then stormed out of the show. Zac Efron then accepted the award for Best Male Performance for his work in 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year.' 'The Proposal' actors Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock presented best kiss. Kristen Stewart and Pattinson took home the award, making it the third popcorn prize issued to the vampire hunk. The costars pretended to almost kiss which ended in Stewart saying, "Thank you so much." Later in the show, Pattinson and Stewart joined their costar Taylor Lautner to present a special sneak preview of the 'Twilight' sequel, 'New Moon.' Stewart would later win the award for Best Female Performance and have a bit of a trip-up on stage. "I'm just as awkward as you thought I'd be," she joked. Following the kissing award, actor Jim Carrey stood up in the audience and requested Samberg to perform some of his digital shorts from "SNL." Leann Rimes, Chris Isaak and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker then sang "D--- in a Box." Best WTF Moment was awarded to 'Baby Mama' Amy Poehler. Lil Wayne and "Gossip Girl" Leighton Meester presented the award for Best Song From a Movie to Miley Cyrus for her song "The Climb" from her film 'Hannah Montana: The Movie.' "Dude, Lil Wayne is presenting my award. I'm stoked," Cyrus said. Comedic actor Ben Stiller was presented the Generation Award by Efron, Kiefer Sutherland and Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog. "You sell out theaters without selling out," Efron said. "I guess comedy is in your DNA along with monkey ears, monkey arms and monkey forehead," the puppet dog said. Funnymen Danny McBride and Will Ferrell presented Jim Carrey with the award for Best Comedic Performance. Carrey choked up at the podium and a voice-over of his thoughts accepted the award. "There wouldn't be a swine flu if we treated the pigs better," the actor said before leaving the stage. Denzel Washington ended out the night presenting Best Movie with his daughter Olivia. 'Twilight' took home the award, making it their fifth popcorn prize of the evening.
