Canadian-born R&B singer Keisha Chante has been tapped to portray the late Aaliyah in a biopic recounting the life and untimely death of the hip-hop and R&B artist.
The film is scheduled for release next year.
Although Chante's acting resume is a short one, she has starred in a number of independent flicks and boasts a 2006 R&B album out called 2U with another on the way.
Sources say she was selected for her striking resemblance to the multi Grammy-nominated Aaliyah.

A source close to Jennifer Hudson has said that the Oscar winner may perform the Star Spangled Banner at Barack Obama's inauguration on January 20th.
It would be her first public performance/appearance since the horrific murder of her mother, brother and young nephew.
"Organizers want Jennifer to sing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the Inauguration on Jan. 20. They are talking to Jennifer about it. It would be the first time she performed since the murders. She is from Chicago and a huge Obama supporter," said the insider.
